I had 1 tablet and since the idol discounts me one jewel i could have done the research yet it did not let me do it saying i don't have tablets.

By all means the research should have been possible.

I have 0 gold, 0 compasses, 2 tablets and 1 arrowhead in stock.
In my hand I have Inscribed Blade, Idol of Ara-Anu, 1 funding, 1 exploration and Chronometer.
I am at the top of the research track and want to research an 11-point tile (cost 1 gold 1 compass 2 tablets, 1 arrow 1 jewel).
I want to use 1 of my tablets with the Blade to get a discount of 2 tablets. I want to use my 2nd tablet with the Idol to get a discount of 1 jewel.
I play the Chronometer as a free action for a gold and a compass and I already have an arrowhead in my stock. Then I play the two artifacts and click on the 11-point tile.
Unfortunately the game then gives me an error - it tells me either that I have too few tablets or too few jewels depending on the order in which I play the artifacts before clicking on the tile to purchase it.

When I purchase Idol or Ana-Anu I am unable to advance on the research track even though I have the required resources (including the jewel discount).

To play Idol of Ara-Nu from your hand costs you one tablet. Therefore, you cannot research playing this card with only one tablet if moving your token on the search trail requires a tablet.
Not a bug.

@xxee: To play or buy an artifact card requires an action. You have only one available action in your turn, therefore you cannot play 2 artifact cards from your hand in the same turn.

I tried to acquire the right silver temple tile with my compass, arrowhead, and Ara-Anu card but got an error message that said "not enough tablet" but tablets should only be required for the left silver temple tile.

1) your comment does not relate to a verifiable gaming situation
2) you need to spend a tablet to play an artifact from your hand, so it’s normal for an error message to appear if you don’t have a tablet when you play Idol of Ara-Anu
